Dr. Andrea Gunoe is a Theatre and Performance Scholar specializing in performance in the military. She received her PhD from the University of Pittsburgh with her dissertation titled March of Militarism: Contemporary Nationalism through Military Spectacle. She received her MA from Brigham Young University. Andrea is currently serving as an Assistant Professor, Limited Term, in Performance Studies at Kennesaw State University. In addition to performance in the military, Dr. Gunoe’s active areas of scholarly work include gender and masculinity, affect, and trauma. Andrea is an award-winning teacher and is passionate about the many students she has taught over her decade in the university classroom. Dr. Gunoe is also a theatre practitioner. She is a director, choreographer, and dramaturg and is drawn to movement-based feminist pieces. In her theatre practice, she has worked with several universities and professional companies.
Some of her directing credits include a reconception of Wilde’s An Ideal Husband at Brigham Young University, The Verge by Susan Glaspell, and Charm by Kathleen Cahill for University of Pittsburgh Stages. Andrea has directed several children’s Shakespeare productions at Idaho Shakespeare Festival and has worked with Boston’s Open Theatre Project. A friend once described Andrea's directing style and aesthetic as "dark and sparkly."
